Huawei has partnered with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to develop a solar PV facility in Nigeria, as announced by the Presidency during President Tinubu’s visit to the China-Africa summit.
The announcement follows President Tinubu’s visit to Huawei Technologies’ research center, where Huawei introduced DigiTruck—a mobile ICT classroom designed to boost digital literacy in underserved Nigerian communities.
The initiative will target at least 3,000 students annually across 10 states in Nigeria.

Huawei’s CEO in Nigeria, Chris Lu, expressed support for Nigeria’s National Talent Export Programme (NATEP), which aims to position Nigeria as a leading hub for talent outsourcing in Africa.
He hopes that the NATEP will continue to grow, enabling Nigerian tech talent to serve international markets and contribute to NATEP’s objectives.
During President Tinubu’s tour of Huawei’s Beijing Research Center, he was introduced to Huawei’s latest advancements in e-government, smart education, smart grid technologies, and solar power.
These innovations are expected to support Nigeria’s public services, digital governance, and inclusive development goals.
Huawei also plans to establish a joint photovoltaic (PV) test lab with the REA to further these objectives.
The creation of this solar PV test facility aligns with Nigeria’s efforts to expand clean energy solutions. Solar energy is increasingly popular for small businesses and households in Nigeria, which benefits from about 6 hours of sunlight per day and has an estimated solar energy potential of 427,000 MW.
